Compost Cooperative Training

Last Date:

Location:
2255 Sherman Ave NW
Building:
Howard University Urban Garden
Details:

Would you like a free, local, always-open place to drop off your food scraps to be composted? The DC Department of Parks and Recreation runs 50 compost cooperatives that fit the bill. Taking this one hour training will allow you to join any of the cooperatives around the city. Training activities will include an intro to composting as well as all you need to know to be a member of any of DPR's compost cooperatives, including what can and cannot be added to he compost bins, and how to turn the compost piles, move the piles from one bin to the next, sift finished compost, and maintain the 3-bin system.

The training will last one hour (from 10 am to 11 am), and you are welcome to stay afterwards (from 11 am to 1 pm) to get your hands dirty turning the piles, moving the piles, sifting, etc.

**Please bring comfortable clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a little dirty. You may also want to bring a pen to take notes-- we will have a handout for the training.

The Howard University Urban Garden is located at the corner of Sherman Ave and Barry Pl NW.
