Electronics Recycling Event -eCYCLE DC

Last Date:

Location:
3160 16th Street, NW
Details:

The Sustainable Solid Waste Management Amendment Act of 2014, using the principles of extended producer responsibility, requires manufacturers of covered electronic equipment (CEE) sold in the District to collect and recycle electronic waste generated in the city. DOEE reviews and provides oversight of manufacturers’ collection and recycling plans. Under eCYCLE DC, there are requirements for manufacturers and retailers of covered electronic equipment (CEE) and there are new opportunities for individuals to properly recycle their electronics.

Please see the links below for more information.

Individuals- Learn how to recycle your electronics.

Manufacturers- Learn about manufacturer registration and collection requirements.

Retailers- Learn about the responsibility of retailers.

Resources- Find important documents related to eCYCLE DC.

Electronics manufacturers will collect used electronic equipment at neighborhood locations across the city, in addition to the DPW Ft. Totten Transfer Station residential drop-off facilities available every Saturday from 8am-3pm.

Certain covered electronic equipment is banned from the trash and will be accepted at the eCYCLE DC events. Read more>>

For concerns about data security, please see the following best practices for data-bearing electronic equipment. Electronics collectors recommend that consumers use commercially available data-erasing software to ensure data is removed from the equipment prior to returning for recycling. Electronics recycler protocol is to wipe or physical destroy data-bearing electronic equipment but it is prudent for residents to erase data out an abundance of caution.
