Join the DC Department of Public Works (DPW) to safely dispose or recycle household hazardous waste, electronics, secure documents.
Registration in required. To accommodate everyone in a safe and timely manner, DPW is now requiring registration to participation in the Special Waste Collection Events. Sign up below for a 15-minute entry slot.
You can arrive anytime in the 15-minute period and a DPW staff member will check you in. Vehicles will be serviced in the order in which they arrive. Only one ticket is required per vehicle. No entry will be allowed after 2:00 pm.
Who can participate:
- Open to DC residents only. Please bring proof of residency (e.g. driver's license, utility bill, lease agreement) and Eventbrite registration.
- No commercial waste will be allowed.

- Household hazardous waste
- Electronics
- Secure documents to shred

Safety Tips:
- Put away electronic devices to avoid distractions while driving.
- Remove personal items from your trunk when dropping off special waste.
- Please stay in your car at all times. A DPW staff member will retrieve materials from your car.
- If you arrive on foot or bicycle, please check in immediately with the nearest DPW staff member.
- Please follow instructions.
