The Sustainable Solid Waste Management Amendment Act of 2014, using the principles of extended producer responsibility, requires manufacturers of covered electronic equipment (CEE) sold in the District to collect and recycle electronic waste generated in the city. DOEE reviews and provides oversight of manufacturers’ collection and recycling plans. Under eCYCLE DC, there are requirements for manufacturers and retailers of covered electronic equipment (CEE) and there are new opportunities for individuals to properly recycle their electronics.

With the support of Wisetek, a locally-based global leader in IT asset disposal (ITAD), re-use and manufacturing services, electronics manufacturers will collect used electronic equipment at neighborhood locations across the city, in addition to the DPW Ft. Totten Transfer Station residential drop-off facilities available every Saturday from 8 am-3 pm.
