Construction & Demolition
-
Preventing waste, reusing materials, and recycling waste at a construction/demolition (C&D) site can be accomplished with some pre-planning and by incorporating waste reduction into work practices.
-
Reusing materials is another way to reduce waste and lower your disposal costs. Many C&D materials can be salvaged and reused by you or by others. Markets for reusable materials are available through material exchanges or other local non-profit organizations.
Sustainable Purchasing
-
Set up a sustainable purchasing program for your office by establishing a policy and developing criteria for the purchase of Environmentally Preferable Products and Services (EPPS) including materials made from recycled content.
-
Learn more about DC Government's Sustainable Purchasing Program and review its sustainable products and services specifications here.
Supply Swap
-
Embrace one of the key principles of sustainable consumption – Shop your own closet – by holding an office freecycle event.
-
Invite office colleagues to clean out office storage closets and de-clutter their workspaces by contributing unused or unwanted office supplies to the event.
-
Attendees “shop” the collection of items. When the event is over, celebrate your success by sharing the value of the items exchanged.
-
Donate unclaimed items. Visit here for the donate directory.
